So i Got back around 9:30pm after watching The Time Traveler’s Wife. To be honest, i was scared to watch it! The reason? The usual… Hollywood killing a perfectly written book. I bought the book after being suggested by my sister’s friend on my visit to Singapore. Since then, I have read it numerous times. But didn’t surpass my Harry Potter record. (Trust me. I don’t think anyone is close to my HP reading records. Yes. I kept a count. I’m too cool. :D )

ANyhooo… So i went and watched. and I cried. And for most of you that don’t know me, THAT is a rare feat. I NEVER cry during movies. The movies i have cried for? Harry Potter and Lord Of The Rings. Yea, you can call me ummm… whatever you like. :P

So yeah. I Cried! For two reasons.
First reason i cried for:
There was a snack bar serving something totally awesome and spicy! and yours truly ran during intermission to buy it. And… i bit all the chillies. And tears rolled down my eyes.
Second Reason:
the movie.

The only thing i wished differently about the movie was the ending. I wish they had stuck to the book end along with Henry’s letter to Clair. *sigh*
Audrey Niffenegger, you truly are a master. The Time Traveler’s Wife will always remain in my list of favourite books.
S, you better not lose my book! And sorry. I couldn’t wait for you mister’ i-am-now-too-busy-to-hang-out’ !
So i leave you now with a picture of 6, my Fringed Boots from Carlton London. The argyle brown stockings are Promod.

Jahnabee and idiva.

November 8, 2009

Jahnabee Borah. My senior is school. only conversations from my side was a shy ‘hi jahnabee’ and a smile. those were the days of innocence. The days when you didn’t know what the future will bring.
fast forward: 2009.
Still my senior she is but now part of team idiva and an awesome writer. And our usual meeting place? The fashion Week venues.
Her articles aren’t the ones you read with those stereotypical reviews et al. She gives you what she has seen firsthand. It’s interesting to read her perspective and trust me, i’ve read them ALL.
Sometime back, i got onto idiva.com to read her articles on the fashion week. I began to go through the archives and read everything by her. Then i stumbled upon this article called “Daily Style Fix” only to find out that she had done a write up on bloggers. and yours truly too, was featured. It was such a pleasant surprise and it truly made my day a happy, happy one. Thank you Jahnabee. ^___________^

“Surfing style blogs on the Internet has become an obsession for most girls and some guys (perhaps). These blogs are like a window to how these bloggers interpret style in their own unique way.
Some click pictures of stylish men and women around them while others use themselves as fashion guinea pigs and document it.
And then there are people like who me visit these blogs for inspiration and fodder for story ideas :)
Style spotting
Ever since I was introduced to the very addictive style blog thesartorialist.blogspot.com, I’ve been talking about it. Almost all style bloggers have tagged this blog in their Favourites.
What I love: The Sartorialist – he is a man, by the way – takes pictures that are like sculpted forms and you wish you could imitate his knack for clicking perfect photos. My pick from his repertoire are shots from Delhi with two very unpretentious-about-style women.
There’s a sexy French lady with a great camera that I want to steal. Her name is Garance Dore and her blog’s called www.garancedore.fr/en/. Dore shoots some very stylish images of others as well as herself, which she then uploads.
What I love: The interesting bytes of info she posts along with her pictures, because they are spiced with a keen sense of humour.
A constant muse for both these bloggers, is a very stylish and sophisticated woman, Giovanna Battaglia whose wardrobe is every girl’s dream and whose legs every girl’s envy.

Regular reads
Other style blogs that have me hooked are thecherryblossomgirl.com, lisaslikes.blogspot.com and lazymanxcat.wordpress.com.

Thecherryblossomgirl.com is written by Alix, a fairy-like French fashionista who captures the delights of being a girl.
What I Love: She photographs herself and all her pretty collectibles, and touchingly, uploads links to songs with almost all her posts. It’s like the song was playing in the background while she was working on her blog.

When you log on to lisaslikes.blogspot.com, your first reaction is: “Aww, what cute sketches!”
What I Love: Lisa, who lives in Los Angeles, says that she started this blog because she was bored with her job. Thank God for that, I say. Her style is simple and she mixes and matches and revamps her clothes to create a new look every time. The best part is her clothes aren’t expensive and her blog is infused with a charming joie de vivre.

lazymanxcat.wordpress.com (see pic below) is new, and I have to share it with you because it’s by an Indian girl.
What I Love: There’s some very engaging information about her likes and dislikes and all her writing is peppered with a fab sense of humour. Here again you’ll find some sketches of fashion design and if you post a comment, she will promptly reply.

Gossip gals
Ahh, now it’s time to look at style through a critic’s magnifying glass! That’s when you need to log onto highheelconfidential.com and gofugyourself.celebuzz.com.
Highheelconfidential.com will give you all the gyaan on Bollywood celebs and socialites – who wore what brands and whether they killed the look or rocking it.
What I Love: It’s a one-of-a-kind Indian style blog that will leave you wondering how they know who all the inside stuff.
Gofugyourself.celebuzz.com just rips apart celebs with their rapier-sharp jokes if they aren’t dressed properly enough.
What I Love: The blog is mostly about Hollywood celebs and it’s hugely entertaining. A good space to park your b%^ch*ness!”

So there i was. yet again. A Saturday. And nothing to do. No plans, NA DA! The friend begins to ditch me for very valid reasons and therefore i begin to call him a ’super rat’. My plan of revenge? “I’m watching Time travelers Wife’ without you!” *sigh* what a comeback. Not like the movie will be anything compared to the books.
Anyhoooo! W and me were left all aone to do ABSO nothing. Literally. We went to KFC and i ate. i GORGED. like a pig. And this is coming from someone who goes around saying ‘i hate KFC’.
So i didn’t wear anything that even made ME go ‘oh’ and ‘ah’. It was a straight-out-of-bed-grab-jeans comfort look. This was my inital plan:
Get a good head shot of my hair.

And then, i thought ‘Hey! let me show you my ring!’

Then i reached home and thought about cleaning my always messy closet and found my Asos spider tights i never wore. So i thought ‘oooh! let me wear it with Bee and take pictures!”

And Then! I went ALL OUT. grabbed my Furry little friend from Forever New, put on home-made black lipstick and took out a good amount of all my shoes.

And what do we have after all that? What began as a day too ‘normal’ ended in a crazy affair. ‘This is one for the blog’ i thought. and so there we have it, Ladies and Gentlemen. The manxcat leaves you with a *puuurrrrrr*.
xoxo

So I’m not a big fan of doing editorials in my Blog because we either see them in magazines or other fashion sites. But… (urgh) it hurts me to say this. i think i am becoming a fan. This editorial is in the November issue of the Paris Vogue and i instantly fell in love with it. I don’t like clean cut pictures. I like them a little dark, a little messy, a little quirky, a little rock and roll. This was sugar and spice and everything nice- well, from my perspective that is.
The photographs were by Mario Sorrenti featuring the lovely Raquel Zimmermann. About Raquel, i thought she was a great and versatile model. But after watching “The September Issue” and that little scene with Grace Coddington during the shoot, i fell in love with her as a model. That shoot in the September Issue still remains one of my favourites.

November 1, 2009

Apparently my (almost) ushanka draws too much attention. But no matter. I still love it. I’m not a very ‘furry’ person so this is good enough for me. It’s one of my recent purchases along with the ring. I feel like some great empress or the Queen wearing it. “kiss the ring” I would say. It’s not extremely clear so i’ll do a daylight post with them soon. I also finally got the chance to wear my leather tights and to show you all ‘Miss L’ – my Birthday gift (shoe) to myself.
It’s been a drag after the hustle- bustle of the Fashion Week. Everything seems like its in slow motion!
If only something would come along again. :(
Anyhoo, this is what i wore today:
Almost Ushanka and empress ring – Forever New.
‘Miss L’ Oxford wedges – Nine West.
Bag – Vintage Fendi.

The Risky Maxi

October 31, 2009

Maxi dresses:
makes one look fat and short.
No events to wear to.
impossible to walk in.

Then came Fashion Week and i was running out of outfits to wear. I bought the maxi dress about a month ago just for the sake of owning one and i never thought i would get the chance to wear it.
Funnily though, after trying it on, it was great! and it actually makes you look taller!
I guess i can say i am fan of maxi dresses now! Although i need to find one with which i can walk around freely in. This one is meant for graceful events and not fashion weeks in which i need to run every five minutes!

These are shots of me when i was caught by fashion photographer, Deepak. S. Raghavan.

They are also the only pictures of me where you can see what i had worn in the fashion week. I guess i can do a post of everything i wore to show you guys. Maybe..

Fashion Week, Delhi. Day V

October 31, 2009

Happy Halloween!
Last pictures of the fashion week and not too many! I think every fashionista was too tired by today.
I went in to watch the Lecoanet Hemant show. It was confusimng. Their collection seemed to be autumn/ winter. I thought they got a special permission to showcase an autumn/ winter collection and not a spring/ summer one. It also included everything from Western to Indian. It wasn’t a very original show.

Prashant Verma’s collection however, was excellent.
His dresses with the zipper details stood out.

Here is a model showcasing the dress:

I was super excited when he spoke to me! Lol. :D
